3/12/2015 – Nearables Lab

Just started a nearables laboratory at the Florida Polytechnic University. This lab will be focused on utilizing bluetooth beacons as a means to interact with the environment. This lab will explore the possibilities of integrating device “nearness” into daily events. An example would be automatically unlocking a door when an individual comes close to it.

Currently our project is to set up a platform where a group entity at a hackathon would be able to register with a bluetooth beacon and associate information with that beacon. An observer could then walk by and view that said information. We currently using mobile devices as bluetooth sniffers that will be integrated with a node/mongoose/mongo server to accomplish this.
